Rice60 viewsMelissa had gotten rice all in Kim's car when she got married. Kim vowed revenge, and got it, and I voked to get the shot. You only have one chance at something like this. I focused on where the rice would be, waited, and snapped. You can see the rice in a larger view or a print.Dec 24, 2009

Millard & Chris at South Ranch291 viewsChris was the one person who was truly supportived Snow Hill Video's mission to create videos for Habitat affiliates and other non-profits. I made 3 videos for them staying at Chris' house for 2 weeks. Chris was in his element as ED of Habitat for Humanity, Valley of the sun. I will always remember him there and his famous (and delicious) tortellini soup.
If you are not familiar with Habitat for Humanity, Millard founded it in 1976 (not Jimmy Carter). For an article on Chris and his work, go here - http://www.charlotteobserver.com/breaking/story/1092354.htmlDec 07, 2009

A New Light96 viewsThis is the best one so far!
Dragonflies are new for me. This was my 3rd or 4th time, ever. Butterflies I know, but dragonflies are another matter. They are more skittish than butterflies and they seem to see better, Butterflies get preoccupied with nectaring, mating, puddling, and charging their solar batteries. Yes, they are partially solar powered. Puddling is when males drink salts from the wet sand or manure to become more fertile.
I think about how to best capture these guys, if they let me.If you shoot them square-on from the top, everything can be in focus, but they don't always let you get over top of them and the same shot becomes boring after a while. You don't get a good shot of their face that way. Anyhow, I was trying to think of different angles when I noticed the setting sun. I thought why not see if I can make their wings glow in the twilight, and I did. This guy let me take 20 pictures from just a few inches away. He was on crepe myrtle, so the background is colorful. I love soft, out-of-focus, colorful backgrounds. This is the full-res file. Zoom in and look at the detail. I love taking a picture like this that shows you more than you can see with the naked eye.
This is sheds a new light on things, so I'm calling it A New Light.Sep 18, 2009
